Starry Llama – Product Review

Rhys Reviews began its journey almost three years ago and started off as a tiny Facebook page to provide one central place to talk about new musicals from all over the world. It has since grown and grown (keep your eyes peeled for a celebration of the Facebook coming soon!) to become a platform to showcase new and emerging projects to a wider audience. I would never have imagined that there would come a time where we would be reviewing products to help promote small businesses and their projects! A little while ago I did a write-up about two pairs of fabulous earrings that I was sent by the amazing Starry Llama Gifts. Despite never having had my ears pierced, I was able to review (and model!) the earrings which add a bit of camp to any outfit without being too loud/over-the-top! I have to admit that I was very late to the wax melt craze in fact my first ever time using these mini-candles was in a review for Astraea wax (which is available at https://rhysreviews.com/2021/05/01/astraea-wax-melts-review/ and you should keep an eye on our page for an upcoming partnership) but I realised how much more convenient and handy these melts could be. If you haven’t used melts before, there are essentially small candles that you burn on a wax burner and they are incredibly calming/relaxing!

The wonderful team at Starry Llama have sent me a selection of scents and types of melts which I was very excited to try as there is some festive one inside (most people who read my reviews will know about how much I love Christmas!) The first thing that caught my eye was the most adorable mini mason jar filled with a sweet orange-scented melt. They looked so cute and would not look out of place on the table of any fancy wedding. The scent itself was incredible even before I had started to burn it and while alight it was a lot more subtle. At first, I did have a few issues keeping the candle alight as the wick did burn out fairly quickly which meant I had to scoop some of the wax out for it to start burning again but once this was done it burnt for hours! The smell was amazing and it was subtle enough to not overpower a room which I know is very difficult for orange-based smells!

My personal favourite would have to be the chocolate orange scented snap bar that also came with all my products. I have never used a snap bar before but the satisfaction I got from the clean snap before putting the sections on the melter was euphoric. The way these work is by snapping off sections to use and then sealing up the rest to use at a later time so that you get more uses than just the one (which you get with most small melts.) The raw or unburnt smell of this candle was incredible, it was literally like Terry’s chocolate orange was filling the room. This was a much stronger smell which instantly filled up the my room which I really enjoyed! It would be a perfect scent to fill up space especially now with the festive season quickly approaching.

The other highlight for me in this package was the spooky Jack-o-lantern shaped melts that were appropriately pumpkin spice scented. They each had a scattering of glitter in the melts which looked incredible as the melt became liquid in the burner. This was a much more subtle smell than I was expecting but to be honest I have not really been a part of the pumpkin spice trend that places such as Starbucks seem to be cashing in on! I was also given the most adorable doughnut-shaped, vanilla-scented candles that smelt great when burnt and looked so cute in the packaging!

Overall, the wax melts from starry llama were all amazing to look at and most would create a wonderfully atmospheric in any room that is burnt in. The design and packaging of the products were all excellent (specially the Halloween and mason jar samples) with each being clearly labelled if you wanted to order more of a scent. I would rate this product 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend that to anyone who is looking for an easy way to relax by burning some candles that won’t overpower your senses!
