ADHD: A Crowdwork Comedy by Brendon Lemon (who we were lucky enough to chat to on our YouTube channel, which you can watch here https://youtu.be/NJ2wyeWwEGI) is a uniquely intimate, fast-paced improvised comedy show where the audience very quickly become the stars of the show! Despite the unpredictable nature of such a show making every performance totally different, Brendon is able to effortlessly and hilariously interact with and divert the audience when necessary, which is a very impressive feat!
I think it is important to note that, despite the name, there is very little reference to ADHD (apart from the constant, fast-paced switching between audience members by the host), but, in fact, the entire show is built upon the people in the room. From riffing with strangers to building entirely new characters and creating comedic payoffs from the tiniest of details, Brendon is able to improvise his way through this thirty-minute bubble while encouraging a sense of community within the audience. This leaves you walking away with memories and jokes that only the people in the room at that time will be able to relate to! I think it will come as a surprise to absolutely no one who knows me in real life that I decided to walk into this show at Nineties at Laughing Horse brandishing my Mr Tumble-inspired shirt, which must have been like a red flag to a bull for Brendon, as he instantly zoomed in with a series of hilarious jokes and comments that the entire audience (myself included) erupted into laughter at. He was also able to pick out an audience member who had recently gone through a breakup, which led to an on-stage search for their potential next suitor, bouncing off earlier stories to see if they would be of interest to them. He was also able to perfectly interact with someone who maybe had a little bit too much to drink, but was still able to direct these chats into comedic moments, ensuring the show did not go too much askew (if that is even possible). This showed just how much of a truly talented host and comedian Brendon really is!
In conclusion, ADHD: A Crowdwork Comedy by Brendon Lemon is a unique and fast-paced comedy whirlwind where no one is safe from the quick wit and sharp tongue (despite clearly suffering from some sort of Fringe Flu) of the solo performer. Being able to instantly draw upon comedic moments and potential jokes from an unpredictable audience, as well as harking back to previous moments in the show, helps establish Brendon as a comedic magician, with no two shows being even remotely similar, yet each one being absolutely hilarious! I would rate this show 4 out of 5 stars!
